Job Overview

The successful candidate will be responsible for providing environmental permitting support to comply with federal, state, and local regulations.  The candidate will work closely with management, operations, and other HES professionals to support the Spill Prevention, Control, and Countermeasure (SPCC) program, environmental assessments of operational locations, and baseline groundwater/soil sampling program.

 

This position will report to the Environmental Supervisor and will be responsible for environmental permitting support in the development of the Permian, Oklahoma, Eagle Ford, and Bakken Assets. The successful candidate will be located in the Houston, TX office with the ability to travel 15-25% of the time to field locations.

 

Primary responsibilities:

  • Execute all environmental assessments & site characterization for new pads and expansion of existing pads.
    • attend all preconstruction and pad development meetings.
    • conduct preconstruction screening for floodplains, jurisdictional waters, endangered species and archeological sites.
    • Work with Bureau of Land Management (BLM), Bureau of Indian Affairs (BIA), U.S. Army Corp of Engineers (COE), Local County Floodplain administrator to obtain appropriate determinations, permits, and/or approval for new pad construction or expansions. This may include permitting through Clean Water Act Section 404.  
    • Maintain constant communications with the Facilities & Construction and Subsurface teams to ensure that preconstruction terms are accurate and timely and conditions are achievable
  • Schedule and maintain files for baseline groundwater and soil sampling program.
    • Review drilling schedule and schedule sample collection with third party contractor.
  • Knowledge of Spill Prevention, Control, and Countermeasure (SPCC) SPCC program
    • Manage SPCC update log to evaluate technical and non-technical amendments for SPCC updates.
    • Maintain files for existing SPCC plans.
    • Schedule and obtain new SPCC plans for new facilities.

Other Responsibilities

  • Responsible for project management, including the development of requests for bid proposals, work orders and supervision of contractors.
  • Optimize the permit application and preconstruction process.
  • Promotes sustainable environmental practices within the company, including impacts on sensitive species and habitats.     
  • Availability to travel to stakeholder meetings and act as company representative.
  • Adheres to established work schedule, attendance standards, and is punctual to work and meetings.
  • Must be solution oriented.

Minimum Requirements:

  • Bachelor’s degree in environmental science/engineering and/or technical discipline.
  • 5+ years of relevant upstream oil & gas experience
  • 5+ years of relevant environmental permitting and/or compliance experience
  • Environmental permitting, program implementation, risk identification, and project management skills
  • Excellent oral and written communications, teamwork, planning & organizational skills. 
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office suite, and various Environmental databases
  • Project management skills with minimal oversight required

Preferred Requirements:

  • 5+ years in an environmental role at an upstream oil/gas operator.
