Reach your full potential

At Marathon Oil, we believe that embracing diversity and inclusion (D&I) – valuing people for the unique contribution they can make, regardless of their background – is simply a human way of doing business. It also happens to be essential to our competitiveness, a real win–win.

D&I makes business sense, which is one of the reasons why we continue to give it our full commitment. In our challenging business environment, we rely on diverse, inclusive teams to help us compete in our space and achieve our ambitions. These teams stimulate creativity and innovation, help us better understand the world around us, and make us attractive as an employer.

D&I is not a standalone initiative at Marathon Oil, or a box to be checked. It’s embedded in our values and behaviors, an integral part of who we are and the way we do things. Because education is a key factor in a diverse and inclusive workplace, we conduct D&I-focused training programs for our employees as part of our Leadership Development Program.

Diversity Partnerships

We are always looking for ways to fuel our talent pipeline with diverse candidates, and that’s why we support and invest in a range of external organizations that reflect the major communities we represent. Marathon Oil is committed to impactful partnerships with organizations including Women’s Energy Network, Catalyst, Pink Petro, Hispanic Alliance for Career Enhancement (HACE), Society of Women Engineers (SWE), and Human Rights Campaign (HRC).

“We are committed to fostering an inclusive environment where people are valued, respected and are highly motivated to contribute their best talents to achieve business success.”

Veterans to Energy

Veterans often possess strong management skills, an operational perspective, and the capacity to operate under challenging circumstances. Marathon Oil has implemented a military veteran recruiting strategy that includes building relationships with veteran services organizations and participating in targeted career fairs, job boards and websites, resulting in better access to officers and enlisted personnel from various branches of the military.

To facilitate veterans' retention and transition to the corporate environment, operational organizations have developed a program that pairs new veteran hires with an employee mentor.

In addition to valuing the experience and skills of our veterans, Marathon Oil supports our employees' need for leave to fulfill their military obligations. In 2012, Marathon Oil was presented a Patriot Award for its support of the National Guard and Reserves in Oklahoma. The honor is bestowed to employers by the Employer Support of the Guard and Reserve, a Department of Defense agency established in 1972.

“It's an honor and a privilege to support the men and women who have served in our armed forces. They bring discipline, commitment and focus to the job, and their leadership abilities and sense of teamwork make them a good fit within our Company's culture.”
