Marathon Oil is seeking an IT Security Engineer. As an IT Security Engineer, you are part of the IT Security Operations team that is responsible of maintaining operational effectiveness and efficiency of Marathon’s security infrastructure. This team is also responsible for managing daily operations including but not limited to, endpoint security, risk analysis, security designs, firewalls, VPN/remote connectivity, and load balancers. The Security Engineer will also be expected to manage project work taking ownership/ leadership of the design and implementations of a specific security product or service.

Demonstrated Experience with the following:

  • Experience with deploying and managing various endpoint security tools in an enterprise setting
  • Experience with non-signature-based end-point protection systems, advance threat detection techniques, prevention of zero-day attacks, data encryption, and Advance Persistent Threat (APT) technologies
  • Good understanding of malware detection and remediation techniques, cyber kill chain, and prevention of common exploitation techniques
  • Enforce security policies and procedures by administering and monitoring security profiles, reviews security violation reports and investigates possible security exceptions
  • Must be familiar with Risk Analysis techniques and Risk Assessment process. Any previous experience with RA process or any RA security tool is preferred
  • Develop and maintain documentation related to perimeter security activities such as security controls, and knowledge based articles
  • Administer  Identity and Access Management (IDAM) systems; not required but preferable if experienced with managing any RSA 2FA technologies such as RSA Authentication Manager, RSA Secure ID, and RSA tokens
  • Must be familiar with network traffic analysis and packet capturing tools like Wireshark or TCP Dump
  • Assist in evaluation of latest security products and tools by setting up test systems and POCs
  • Basic knowledge of common security frameworks such as NIST, CIS, COBIT, and ISO27001/ISO27002  
  • Must be familiar with Data Loss Prevention (DLP), Cloud Access Security Broker (CASB), and User Entity Behavior Analytics (UEBA) technologies
  • Assist in implementing hot-fixes and patches on various security devices
  • Must have experience in managing Next Generation Firewalls, preferable Palo Alto Firewalls and Panorama
  • Must have hands-on experience with administration and deployment of F5 load balancers
  • Must be familiar with VPN solutions such as CISCO AnyConnect and Palo Alto Global Protect   
  • Experience determining inefficiencies in the incident management architecture, and recommending changes to improve management of system operation to ensure system availability to all system users
  • Work with other Marathon IT teams to assist in troubleshooting and resolving incident tickets



  • Bachelor’s degree in IT related field, or extensive experience in IT Security
  • Requires knowledge of security issues, techniques and implications across all existing computer platforms.
  • Minimum of (5) year performing duties similar to those listed in the overview section above
  • Experience working in an oil and gas setting
  • Effectively work in a team environment and strong interpersonal skills
  • Excellent communication and collaboration skills to direct resources across multiple disciplines.
